Continuous Work Underway to Shift Aadhat Bazaar in Dehradun

Dehradun, the capital city of Uttarakhand, is known for its scenic beauty, pleasant climate, and a vibrant market culture. However, over the years, the city has been facing the problem of frequent traffic jams, especially in the busy market areas. To address this issue, the authorities are planning to shift the existing Aadhat Bazaar, located in the heart of the city, to a new location. In this article, we will discuss the ongoing work and preparations for the shifting of Aadhat Bazaar to the proposed land in Patel Nagar Dehrakhas.

Problems with the Existing Aadhat Bazaar Location

Aadhat Bazaar, also known as the commission market, is a popular market area in Dehradun where traders buy and sell goods in bulk. The market is located in the heart of the city, which has become a major cause of concern for the authorities. The narrow lanes and congested roads leading to Aadhat Bazaar often lead to traffic snarls, making it difficult for commuters and traders to move around the area. The situation worsens during peak hours and festive seasons when the footfall in the market area increases manifold.

Proposed Solution – Shifting to Patel Nagar Dehrakhas

To solve the problem of traffic congestion in Aadhat Bazaar, the authorities have proposed to shift the market to a new location in Patel Nagar Dehrakhas. The new location is strategically chosen as it is located away from the busy areas of the city and has ample space for the traders to conduct their business activities.

Preparation for the Shifting

The preparations for the shifting of the market are underway, and the authorities are taking all necessary measures to ensure a smooth transition. A joint team comprising officials from MDDA (Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority), Lonivi (Local Officers of the Urban Bodies), and District Administration have surveyed the area and identified 356 shops that will be affected by the shifting.

Survey and Identification of Shops

The joint team has surveyed the existing Aadhat Bazaar and identified the shops that will be shifted to the proposed location in Patel Nagar Dehrakhas. The team has also taken into consideration the demands of the traders and their suggestions for the shifting. The survey report will be presented before the officials and traders in the next meeting to finalize the scheme.

Demands of Traders

The traders have demanded that the entire Aadhat Bazaar should be shifted to the proposed land in Patel Nagar Dehrakhas. They believe that the entry of big vehicles should be stopped to prevent traffic congestion in the new market area. They have also requested that the interests of the traders who are doing business by taking shops on rent should be taken care of.

Compensation for Shop Owners

The shop owners whose shops will be affected by the road widening and shifting of the market have demanded compensation from the authorities. The traders say that compensation should be given to the concerned shop owners according to the amount of shops that will be broken for road widening. The authorities have assured the traders that their demands will be taken into consideration while finalizing the scheme.
