The climate in Uttarakhand is severe with continuous rain and hailstorms in various districts of the state, accompanied by a decline in temperature. While tourists seemed to relish the chilly weather, farmers bore the brunt of the hailstorm.
In Mussoorie, the “queen of mountains,” the temperature has dropped significantly due to the relentless rain and hailstorm since the previous night. As a result, the locals’ lives have been disrupted, and several areas have been covered with a sheet of white hail that appears like snow. However, despite the adverse weather conditions, tourists in Mussoorie continue to enjoy the atmosphere. Nevertheless, the hailstorm has caused significant damage to crops, leaving farmers crestfallen. In addition, the chilly weather caused by the hailstorm and downpour has been a cause for concern among the people.
To combat the cold, individuals are donning warm clothing and gathering around bonfires. The abrupt shift in weather has had a detrimental impact on the people’s health, as cough and cold cases continue to surge in Mussoorie. The CMS of the Sub-District Hospital of Mussoorie, Dr. Yatendra Singh, disclosed that the hospital is treating numerous cough and cold patients daily. Patients have been advised to be cautious while taking their essential medicines. The Meteorological Department has warned of potential hailstorms and rain in the high altitude areas for the next two days, with low-lying areas also likely to experience rain. The authorities have issued a yellow alert concerning this matter.
