44 prisoners found HIV positive in Haldwani Jail

Haldwani: 44 prisoners testing positive for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), including one female inmate, has surfaced from the Haldwani Jail in Uttarakhand, causing a commotion in the jail administration. Dr. Paramjit Singh, the in-charge of the ART Center of Sushila Tiwari Hospital, informed that the number of HIV-positive prisoners is continually increasing, leading to concerns for the jail authorities.

Dr. Singh mentioned that an Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) center has been established to provide treatment to the HIV-infected patients. His team is closely monitoring the prisoners in the jail, and any inmate who tests positive for HIV is given free medication and treatment according to the guidelines set by the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO).

Currently, the jail has 1629 male and 70 female inmates, and regular check-ups are being conducted to ensure the timely treatment of HIV-infected prisoners. The news of the AIDS outbreak in the jail is alarming, and immediate measures need to be taken to prevent its spread.
